Dec. 14, 2021 For Immediate Release
First Church in Jaffrey, mindful of COVID safety concerns for the scores of people who traditionally come on Dec. 24th, will have a Christmas Eve video service of Lessons and Carols that will be available via its website on the morning of Christmas Eve so that people can sing and celebrate the service at a time that is convenient to them.
The Interim Minister, the Rev. David Felton, will give a Christmas meditation, followed by the service of Lessons and Carols that is a tradition of the red brick church next to the 1775 Meetinghouse on the Jaffrey Center Common.
Rev. Felton said, “The community and congregation traditionally flock to the Lessons and Carols service and greatly enjoy singing to the excellent music of Gene Faxon, First Church’s music minister, and the choir of Janet Grant, Joan Epro, and Betsy Feiker. Congregational singing in a crowded church simply wasn’t going to be safe this year, much to our regret. With this compromise, as one member said, “With an in-your-own-home service, my family can sing carols as lustily as they wish!”
The website of the Congregational/United Church of Christ congregation, founded in 1780, is www.firstchurchinjaffrey.org. The video will be produced by Moderator Carol Hess.
